Bird Photography Tours in Peru
Small-group photo tours and workshops led by a National Geographic–funded nature photographer — from Lima's coast to the Amazon.
Built for the Shot
Photography-first tours, run by a photographer
Wild Andes Tours was founded by Alfredo Fernández, a nature photographer whose work on Peru's Lomas earned a National Geographic Society grant. That perspective shapes every photography tour we run: we go where the light is good, we use hides, boats and feeder set-ups to get you close, and we build in the time to actually work a subject.
From the moustachioed Inca Terns of the Lima coast to Humboldt Current pelagics, dazzling Sacred Valley hummingbirds and the macaw clay licks of the Amazon, Peru is one of the richest bird photography destinations on Earth — and most of it is reachable on a focused day trip or short expedition. Groups stay small so everyone gets the angle.

Good to Know
Photography tour FAQs
Are these tours suitable for serious photographers?
Yes — they're designed for photography first. We run small groups, plan each site around the morning and afternoon light, use hides and boat positioning where it helps, and give you the time to work a subject rather than rushing a checklist. Your guide is a working nature photographer.
What camera gear should I bring?
A telephoto lens in the 400–600 mm range covers most subjects; a 100–400 mm zoom is ideal for hummingbirds and boat work. Bring a beanbag or monopod, spare batteries and cards, and rain protection for pelagic and cloud-forest days. We'll advise on specifics once we know your targets.
Can non-photographers or birders join?
Absolutely. Our photography tours are equally rewarding for birdwatchers — the same small groups, expert guiding and access apply. Mixed groups of photographers and birders work well together.
Which tour is best for hummingbird photography?
The Sacred Valley tour's Yanahuara sanctuary and our northern Peru circuit offer feeder and flower set-ups for species like the Sword-billed Hummingbird, Marvelous Spatuletail and Rufous-crested Coquette. For coastal seabirds, the Inca Tern Photo Workshop and La Punta are unbeatable.
