The Peru bird checklist dataset

Every species list behind our site checklists, in one machine-readable file. It is compiled from public eBird records, kept in taxonomic order, and it is the same data that generates the PDFs and the species finder. It is published here so it can be read, checked and cited rather than only downloaded.

What is in the file

Two arrays. checklists lists the source PDF filenames in a fixed order. species holds one record per species, where i indexes into that first array:

Provenance

Compiled from public eBird records for each site's hotspots and held in eBird taxonomic order. It reflects what has been reported, not what a survey found: coverage is uneven between sites, common birds are under-reported relative to scarce ones, and a species being absent from a list means nobody has submitted it there, not that it does not occur. Endemic flags follow the Peruvian endemic list.
