The high-Andean lake of Junín (Chinchaycocha) at 4,080 m — a Ramsar site and one of South America's great bird lakes, and the only home of two critically endangered endemics: the near-flightless Junín Grebe and the Junín Rail. Its reedbeds and puna hold Junín Canastero, Black-breasted Hillstar, Dark-winged Miner and White-bellied Cinclodes, alongside rafts of Andean waterfowl, Giant Coot, Diademed Sandpiper-Plover and seedsnipes.
