The upper Santa Eulalia canyon above 2,700 m — montane scrub, riverine woodland and the first Polylepis, home to a dozen central-Peru endemics: Black Metaltail, Bronze-tailed Comet, Rusty-crowned Tit-Spinetail, Black-necked Woodpecker, Dark-winged Miner, Junín Canastero and White-cheeked Cotinga, with Great Inca-Finch lower down, Andean Condor overhead and Torrent Duck on the river.
