Overview
La Campana & Olmué
Parque Nacional La Campana, above the town of Olmué, protects the matorral and sclerophyll woodland of central Chile between 400 and 1,400 metres — and it is the classic place to clean up the region's endemic birds in a morning of patient birding among the Chilean palms.
The target list is almost all endemic: Moustached Turca and Dusky-tailed Canastero on the brushy slopes, White-throated and Dusky Tapaculos in the gullies, Chilean Tinamou underfoot, and Chilean Mockingbird and Giant Hummingbird in the open. Striped Woodpecker, Chilean Flicker and Austral Pygmy-Owl round out a rich day.
