The legendary elfin forest of Bosque Unchog, above Acomayo in Huánuco — a mossy, wind-stunted woodland at treeline that is one of the most sought-after birding sites in Peru. Its flagship is the spectacular Golden-backed Mountain-Tanager, alongside the endemic Bay-vented Cotinga, Pardusco, Coppery Metaltail, Rufous-browed Hemispingus, Black Metaltail and Masked Fruiteater — an extraordinary cluster of range-restricted specialities in one small bowl of forest.
