The desert oases and huarango (mesquite) forest around Ica, south of Paracas — a green ribbon of river valleys, vineyards and the Huacachina lagoon in a sea of dunes. The mesquite holds the endemic Black-necked Woodpecker and Slender-billed Finch, with Vermilion Flycatcher, Amazilia and Oasis Hummingbirds, the Peruvian Sheartail, Croaking Ground Dove, Scrub Blackbird and dry-country seedeaters, and Coastal Miner on the open desert.
