The Ballestas Islands — 'Peru's Galápagos' — a two-hour boat trip from El Chaco through rafts of Humboldt-Current seabirds. Peruvian Booby, Guanay and Red-legged Cormorants, Peruvian Pelican, Inca Tern, Blackish Oystercatcher and Peruvian Diving-Petrel wheel around the guano rocks, with Humboldt Penguin and a South American Sea-lion colony thousands strong, and the endemic Surf Cinclodes on the wave-washed ledges.
