The upper cloud forest, elfin woodland and treeline of the Abra Málaga road, roughly 3,400 to 3,900 m — the endemic heart of the transect. Inca Wren, Marcapata Spinetail, Cuzco Brushfinch, Unstreaked Tit-Tyrant, Yellow-scarfed Tanager, Creamy-crested Spinetail, Rusty-fronted Canastero, White-tufted Sunbeam, Green-and-white Hummingbird and Chestnut-breasted Mountain Finch — ten Peruvian endemics — with Sword-billed Hummingbird, Great Sapphirewing, Undulated Antpitta, mountain-tanagers, Torrent Duck and Andean Condor.
